Welcome to 2018, and the political landscape is already heating up. It appears that the very first — and contentious — issue will be over the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. I keep hearing on the news that President Trump is “cutting a deal” with the Democrats. I find that language, those three words to be very concerning, and inappropriate.
No one should be “cutting deals” when it comes to leading our nation. The appropriate term and perspective, should be governing. And when you govern, you do it from the basis of the rule of law — that is, what should be the foundation of any policy put forth in this Constitutional Republic. It’s about having fundamental principles and establishing the moral high ground. What unnerves me is that the operation of our federal government cannot be seen as an episode of “Let’s Make a Deal” where contestants get to choose what’s behind door number one, two, or three. In the end, the law-abiding citizens of this nation are the ones left holding the bag.
America is a sovereign nation and we must first establish when it comes to our immigration policy that being in America is not a right for anyone…it is a privilege. And as such, as we begin this debate over our immigration system, one of our first issues to tackle should be ending the insidious “Diversity and Chain Migration” visa programs. It’s time that we, the United States of America, determine who is allowed entry into our nation.
I’ve said in the past that there are three kinds of folks who should be in America — American citizens, those who want to be American citizens, and tourists. Yep, we do need to be just that restrictive, as walking upon this hallowed land isn’t something we should take for granted, nor should others.
Another important aspect in this coming debate of immigration policy needs to be this absurd assertion of sanctuary cities and states. That has to end and there can be no discussion about the DACA program as long as there are these defiant governors and mayors who are in violation of our rule of law, our Constitution. I harken back to the Kate Steinle case, her blood is clearly on the hands of the elected officials in California and San Francisco. This thumbing of the nose at our system of governance and our national sovereignty has no place in our Republic, and must be eliminated.
Next, it’s time we do take the securing of our southern border seriously. As our little family drove from Dallas out to Phoenix, Angela and Aubrey were truly shocked to realize how open our borders are. As we transited through El Paso ,Texas, they were able to easily gaze over into Cuidad Juarez and even there going along Interstate 10 they saw how easy, simple, it could be to jump the fence there and gain illegal entry into the United States. Our border patrol agents need the right equipment, weapons, surveillance means, and vehicles to guard that southern border. And yes, all that is part of a border security wall, an obstacle, to preclude the easy entry of drug and human traffickers, along with Islamic jihadists, into these United States.
Long ago, back during the Reagan administration, much of these border issues were supposed to have been resolved. After all, Reagan “cut a deal” with the Democrats on allowing an amnesty for illegal immigrants…then it was two to three million. Who knows what the numbers are today? And yes, since President Trump has been in office, illegal border crossings are down, and deportations of criminal illegal immigrants are up. These are the actions based on the rule of law, that ensures the safety and security of our nation.
The progressive socialist left loves to create these cute little references, and they’ve done so in this matter. For whatever reason, they’re calling the children brought here, ILLEGALLY, by their parents who came here ILLEGALLY, “dreamers.” Well, doggone, Kate Steinle was a dreamer as well. And all of those Americans who’ve been killed by criminal illegal immigrants had dreams. Let us embark on first and foremost, securing the dreams of our own legal American children and ridding the streets of the threats to their future and their dreams. Let us ensure we have eradicated the existence of criminal illegal gangs such as MS-13 and others who turn our streets into havens for illicit activity. Let us honor those who came to America the right way, through the front door and expended considerable resources to earn the coveted title of American citizen.
The liberal progressives of the Democrat Party hold no high ground here. Therefore, there should be no rush to make any “deals” with them. It’s time we had leadership that governs this nation according to the rule of law, not politicized appeasement or compromise, just to make the liberal progressive media happy. There should be no discussion about DACA unless we end the diversity and chain migration visa programs. There should be no discussion about DACA until there are no designated sanctuary cities or states harboring illegal immigrants. There should be no discussion about DACA until we fix our legal immigration system and process, and secure our porous southern border. We must establish an intricate security system along our southern border that combines all aspects of obstacles, surveillance, and manning — along with effective equipping of our US Border Patrol.
This is not about “making deals” but it is about governing our Republic in accordance to the law. You cannot govern a nation based on emotion, which is the mantra of the left. Nor do you govern a nation devoid of emotion, but that emotion, that love, has to be centered on the country and all its citizens. Governing isn’t about selecting a particular special interest group based on an ideological agenda in order to secure an electoral patronage…that’s what we call pandering, and the liberal progressive left does collective pandering better than anyone.
My advice to President Trump is to start acting like he is the president, the commander in chief of this great nation. He just got bum rushed by the leftist judicial activists so that yesterday gender dysphoric individuals can seek enlistment into our Armed Services. Doggone, I thought the president was the commander in chief of our Armed Forces and set the policy…not some progressive socialist judge.
This isn’t about the art of the deal! This is about the essence of governing a nation. And the last thing we need is to believe we have to acquiesce to Chuck and Nancy, or the rest of the liberal progressive left at all.
We all dream of a more secure America, and our children and grandchildren are the future of this great nation to whom we pass on our dreams and aspirations of greatness.
