Airport Security: There’s a Better Way

Liberty Alerts, American Center for Law and Justice

Each day brings new horror stories from our nation’s airports.  Kids being strip-searched.  Grandparents getting patted-down.  Even those with medical conditions humiliated and embarrassed.

There must be a better way.  There is.  It’s called passenger profiling – a sophisticated technique that focuses on the likely suspects.  This is not racial profiling.

This method is built on a system of information and data.  Travel records of air travelers are examined.  The background and history of the traveler is scrutinized.  Air travelers are questioned.  In short, the focus is on getting solid information about the passengers who plan to get on the plane – a tactic that works because this process begins long before you get to the airport.

The nation of Israel has been utilizing these methods with great success for many decades now.  And, Israel continues to explore new technology – designed to make the process even safer.

The fact is that the TSA right now is institutionally incapable of implementing a sound security strategy.  It’s time to focus on the high-risk travelers – the most likely suspects.  And, that means America must begin profiling air travelers.  It’s a point I made in a debate on Sean Hannity’s program on Fox News – a debate with attorney Gloria Allred.  That interview is posted here.

Everyone agrees – protecting our homeland – is not easy.  But, America deserves more than a one-search-fits-all approach.  Stop the invasive, embarrassing pat-downs that are more akin to sexual assaults than security searches.

It’s time to send a message to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and the TSA:  Let’s profile passengers –  It’s time to target those most likely to be the terrorists.
