Freedom is a major theme in the scriptures. James said that the Gospel is the “perfect law of liberty”. Paul told the Corinthian Saints that “where the Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty” and admonished Galatian Saints to continue to “stand fast therefore in the Liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.” Christ himself told his believers that if they continued in his word they would know the truth and the truth would set them free. American Scripture also testifies to this truth, that the Gospel of Jesus Christ leads to freedom:
Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man. And they are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men, or to choose captivity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself.
