The time has come for the American People to insist that the dishonesty stop, and that the simple truth about why four Americans died is acknowledged. For far too long, a political game has been made a higher priority than the truth. We must not accept that any longer. It is time for the truth, and only the truth.
As Jay pointed out, it is now a documented fact that the White House was directly involved in preparing Susan Rice to tell the American People a fabricated story about why four Americans were killed in Benghazi on September 11, 2012. The story that Susan Rice told was just that – a story. It did not reflect the intelligence available or the belief of those on the ground in Benghazi. No longer is it credible to claim that what Susan Rice told the American People was in any way an attempt to share the truth.
And yet, White House spokesman Jay Carney continues to deny the documented proof that the White House was directly involved in architecting the fabricated story that Susan Rice told. This is the continuation of a fabricated story that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton began telling on September 12, 2012, and again on September 14, 2012 the day after the attack when the families of the fallen gathered to welcome the slain heroes home
The audacity of that story told by Secretary Clinton on September 12, 2012 is beyond comprehension. The fact that Jay Carney and the White House continue to insist that this fabricated story is the truth is nothing short of breathtaking.
Today needs to be a day of reckoning. This false story was never acceptable, but in light of this new information, anyone who continues to cling to this story is wholly unworthy of the public’s trust and must be relieved of duty.
The reason this matters (and the answer to Secretary Clinton’s question about what difference it continues to make) rests on two names: Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty. Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty, along with Sean Smith and Ambassador Chris Stevens, were killed by terrorists on that fateful night in Benghazi.
What makes their story particularly important is the fact that both Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty fought for approximately seven hours while the U.S. government left them to die.
Upon hearing the attack, Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty moved to respond. They were told to stand down. Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty responded anyway, heroically fighting for seven hours, surely expecting that help was on its way.
But help never came. In fact, it was never sent.
When the decision not to send help was made, it is fair to say that it was impossible to know how long the fight would last. But that is precisely the point. It could have lasted an entire day and it does not appear that Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty would have received help. The help was never dispatched.
In testimony to Congress just this morning, retired Brig. Gen. Robert Lovell delivered the somber truth – we didn’t even try.
Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were simply left to be slaughtered.
And to this day, the White House continues to insist on telling a fabricated story. In the United States of America, we are not to leave the fallen behind. We are also supposed to ensure that our fallen heroes are honored.
By continuing to advance a lie about what happened on September 11, 2012, this White House is abdicating its sacred duty. Today must finally be a day of reckoning. The truth – and only the truth – must finally win out.
