Brigham Young: Will the Constitution Be Saved?

Brigham YoungCALLED UNTO LIBERTY, 19th CENTURY SERMONS

1854

Speaking of a perilous war against the U.S. Constitution yet to come that had been prophesied by an American Prophet, and the duty of the Saints in relationship to that perilous threat, Brigham Young added his own prophecy and witness:

Will the Constitution be destroyed? No; it will be held inviolate by this people; and, as Joseph Smith said, ‘the time will come when the destiny of the nation will hang upon a single thread. At this critical juncture, this people will step forth and save it from the threatened destruction.’ It will be so.

Certainly this ought to be the duty of all good people and all who take upon themselves the name of Jesus Christ, the very God of Liberty. It is a duty we all can do; a duty all honorable men and women must do; and with God as our partner we shall not fail.
