If some life is not worth living …

Take their hand, not their life

EUNIE SMITH, EAGLE FORUM

Governor Northam of Virginia has confronted Americans with the “life not worth living” mantra. It preceded the Holocaust in Nazi Germany. Once abortion is legalized, then infanticide and euthanasia follow. No life is sacred. The utilitarian ethic prevails. What good is this person to society or to others? In Nazi Germany, even World War I veterans who could not work due to some physical or mental impairment were labeled “useless eaters” and among those whose lives were ended.

In case you missed it, the Virginia Governor in an apparent attempt to explain his logic for supporting proposed state legislation which allows for termination of a baby’s life during or after delivery, said, “If a mother is in labor…the infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and mother.” Clearly, Gov. Northam considers continued life outside the womb of a helpless baby merely a matter of discussion for those in control.  Infanticide is “the killing of an infant”.

This scenario is in stark contrast with the recent experience of a family in Birmingham whose full-term baby at delivery was in such extreme stress that he was rushed by ambulance with his Dad at his side to a nearby trauma care hospital where he stayed for several weeks. His parents and the nurses and doctors held his hand as he fought for his life. He is now prospering under the loving care of his family. No one stopped to “discuss” whether he would be resuscitated and given his chance for life – no matter the cost.

Another scenario is predicted in an email I just received from a New Yorker.  He saw his state legislature literally applaud their passage of a bill to legalize abortion until birth and the Chrysler Building aglow in celebration.  He wrote:

“Imagine, if you will, being a resident of the State of New York. You receive a letter from the State as follows:

YOUR NAME,

It has been determined that due to your advanced age you are no longer a required living citizen of the State of New York.  You will present yourself to the Office of End of Life at the date and time listed below for termination. There is no appeal of this determination.

Date of Termination: __________ Time of Termination: ___________

“This is, of course, fictional but for how long?

“Termination of life is a serious matter and yet the State of New York has decided that full-term pregnancies can be aborted indiscriminately. The fetus has no right of ‘due process.’  There is no one to speak for the child. This is murder, plain and simple. New York has outlawed the death penalty for convicted criminals yet they have no problem with killing totally viable children before they have ever taken a breath because they are ‘inconvenient.’

“It would be a small step to ‘humanely’ exterminate the elderly. Think about it.”

Thank you, sir. Pro-life organizations like Eagle Forum have thought about it for a long time. If some life is not worth living, then no life is safe.

Consider the testimony of Down Syndrome gentleman Frank Stephens: “My life is worthy of living .“  He points to a Harvard study which concludes that Down people are an “unusually powerful source of happiness.”  “All men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights,” says our Declaration of Independence, “and among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.” Governments are instituted “to secure these rights”, NOT to take them away!  Wake up, America.
