A Special Day

BY ALLEN WEST

Today is a special day for a special woman. On this day, not long ago, God gave the gift of life to my wife, Dr. Angela Michelle Graham-West.

In ten days we will celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary. I have been with Angela for more than half of my life. She will tell you, and I admit, I ain’t the greatest and best. She could have done so much better, but I couldn’t have had a better foxhole buddy than Angela, the mother of our daughters, Aubrey and Austen.

See, Angela is a true hero, a woman of Sparta, a great American. She is the daughter of US Army Master Sergeant Ronald Keith Graham, an American Infantryman who served in Vietnam…and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

She stood by my side through my career in the Army, during several combat tours of duty. All the while, she kept our home fires burning, raised our daughters into women, earned an MBA and PhD, and enjoys a successful career.

Angela is a victor, not a victim, and I will never forget the day the little girl from Kingston, Jamaica, became an American citizen, and the tears she shed.

Happy birthday to my dear wife and love, Angela. I don’t deserve ya, but damn glad I got ya. You’re my American heroine!

Steadfast and Loyal!
Your Husband, Allen
