Pelosi Tried to Slip a Billion Dollars in Abortion Funding in Coronavirus Bill

JORDAN SEKULOW, ACLJ

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and the radical pro-abortion Left tried to slip a BILLION dollars in taxpayer funding for abortions right under everyone’s noses.

Fortunately, this time they got caught. We mobilized quickly last week, and the horrific language was removed before the bill was voted on.

Speaker Pelosi and the Democrats worship abortion above all else. So much so, they were willing to use a Coronavirus relief package that could save lives as a smokescreen to fund abortionists.

We told you that legislation to get more findings on COVID-19 was getting tied up in the House of Representatives because Speaker Pelosi attempted to pad in a workaround for the Hyde Amendment, which prohibits your federal taxpayer dollars from paying for abortions or reimbursing for the payment of abortions.

The “Families First Coronavirus Response Act” would guarantee free COVID-19 testing for all Americans, including the uninsured, and provide two weeks of paid sick leave for those affected by the health crisis.

But Speaker Pelosi’s original plan would have also included a way to circumvent the Hyde Amendment, and provide a billion dollars in U.S. taxpayer funds to fund abortions:

Pelosi attempted to secure a funding stream of up to $1 billion for reimbursing laboratory claims. According to White House officials who spoke with the Daily Caller, that provision would establish a precedent under which health claims for all procedures, including abortion, could be reimbursed with federal funds. That precedent would render the Hyde Amendment, which blocks taxpayer funding for abortion clinics, obsolete.

Pelosi no doubt hoped that with so much chaos and uncertainty surrounding the COVID-19 virus, if she rushed that plan through the House, conservatives wouldn’t catch her craftiness until it was too late. Fortunately, she was incorrect.

On Friday, we reacted quickly, mobilizing our members through our radio program, social media, and digital platforms. More than 100,000 of our members quickly signed a petition demanding that the abortion funding language be removed from the bill. Abortion has no place in addressing the Coronavirus crisis. As a result, we were able to force their hand and have the language removed. BECAUSE YOU DEMANDED IT.

Speaker Pelosi’s plan was thwarted and new language was introduced, removing the billion dollars for abortion. That relief bill was passed in the House on Saturday, 363-40, and will now be sent to the Senate for consideration in the coming days.

We will keep you informed as news from the Senate unfolds.

Now that we know that Speaker Pelosi will use any crisis to fund abortion, we must be increasingly vigilant. We defeated it this time, but we must watch out for future attempts to fund abortion. Together we can defend life.
